Feeling Overwhelmed?

Do feelings of overwhelm ever make you feel like curling up in a little ball on some nice plush carpet? I know they do for me! With the school year in full swing, and activities rolling around the clock, I tend to get overwhelmed and just want to quit.

Christ encourages us to keep going, but not in our own strength. “For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13). This verse was not just applicable to Paul’s life, but to our lives as well. That is the beauty of the Bible. Its promises stand true yesterday, today, and forever.

I encourage you to not give in to feelings of overwhelm. Step off the hamster wheel for just a moment and continue to prioritize God’s Word daily. It will be life-giving when you do.

I have found that when I give God my time, He is able to reorganize my busy schedule according to his plans and purposes. There will always be business—laundry needing folding, meals needing cooking, cleaning needing to happen. These things are all good, but apart from God’s love, we are nothing but noisy, ganging cymbals (1 Cor. 13).

Apart from Christ, we are nothing. He is our everything. Let’s dive into God’s Word each day to get filled up with godly wisdom and direction. Let’s run this race for Jesus and not in our own strength.

Stacked rocks on a trail are intended to signal other hikers or mountain bikers that they are on the correct trail, and headed in the right direction. They are visual markers that no GPS can provide. God's Word can act as our stacked rocks on this trail of life. But we have to look for them. We must actively pursue God with all our hearts, minds, and souls to find his life-giving peace and presence. Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

What is one way you can connect with Christ today?

Dear Jesus,

I am tired. I am tired of trying to run this race apart from you. Please be my strength today and forevermore. Direct me to your Word and fill me with your love. Rearrange my busy schedule perfectly, according to your Will, for your glory. In Jesus’ almighty name, amen.
