More than Surviving

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

When I see questions like, “What are your weekly goals?” posed on the internet, I cannot help but mentally respond, “survive,” and chuckle to myself. With a gaggle of screaming banshees surrounding me, dismantling my house at a more-rapid-than-anticipated rate, “survive” sometimes is my daily/weekly goal.

Being a mom of little ones is pandemonium mixed with Rock and Roll. Sometimes there is rhythm in the chaos, but there is always chaos. I would like to add a cliche, “...and I wouldn’t want it any other way.” But there are times when this simply is not true. As a perfectionist of sorts, I struggle with having my house in a constant state of disarray. I struggle with the lack of a peaceful environment. I struggle with minimal time to myself. This is why I need Jesus now, in this season, more than ever.

The truth is I am struggling. Maybe you are too. God provides a peaceful place for us in His Word. God is our shelter and strong tower. God is our patience when we are all but depleted. God is our help, our lighthouse through the storm, the place of grace where we can find solace and comfort in Jesus’ strong, loving arms.

There is strength to be found in the struggle. Christ’s power is made perfect through our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). Our mama muscles may fail, but God is the strength of our hearts, our portion forever (Psalm 73:26). Let Jesus be your strength today. Go to him in prayer and let him fill your heart in full with his overriding peace, abundant mercy, and steadfast love. Let his grace fill your mama mug to the brim with overwhelming joy and triumph in Jesus’ name!

Dear Jesus,

You know I get overwhelmed sometimes. Taking care of little ones is no small feat. But I know that you equip me and have given me all I need to live a life of righteousness that pleases you (2 Peter 1:3). Thank you, Jesus. I praise you for the peace, mercy, and ultimate goodness you provide. In Jesus’ holy name I pray, amen.

Steps of Faith:

  • Let’s make an actual goal this week. It could be anything! Keep it small. Keep it doable. But let’s do more than just “survive.”

  • Reread today’s scripture passage, 2 Peter 1:3, and dwell on the fact that God has given you everything you need to live a godly life and will continue to equip you.

  • Rely on Jesus’ perfect portion of grace in moments that feel like you are just surviving. Realize that you are more than a conqueror because of Jesus’ victorious love (Romans 8:37).
